A Blist of Fun Things I Have Found While In College

So I know I need to do some serious blist updating... But for now we will have to be content with this fun blist on some funny things I have found in college.

1. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this beauty, but I think it's pretty hilarious, albeit disturbing. I think it accurately sums up how I use my time in college...

2. I love this photo. With all my heart. I want to live here, please. Forget a princess castle (who wants to live in one of those, anyway?), just take me to a really really great library.

3. I found that I am a great firefighter. Becca was trying to make pasta one Sunday and something caught fire in the stove. No one knew what to do, so I grabbed the fire extinguisher. This is a photo of the aftermath. Be proud, people.

4. a. My friend David showed me this video. It kills me every single time. Those darn kittens are too funny for their own good. You seriously should watch this.

4. b. Another great website for randomly cool things is reddit.com.

5. a. You cannot buy caffeine anywhere on campus. (It's BYU. What was I expecting?)
5. b. The Creamery has this really great pellet ice. I would be so happy if our freezer here pooped that stuff. I'm just sayin'.

6. Llamas really are my favorite animal. Now that I have kissed one and all.

7. Sometimes funny things happen at 2 am. Like being pushed across Provo in a shopping cart with a giant slushee from 7-11 and being left in some sprinklers. Don't ask.

8. a. Ikea is a great place to mess around. I mean, I already knew this. But it's super much fun to get a group of people together and take random photos. This is our nice family photo.

8. b. This is our awkward family photo.

9. Sometimes it's really impossible to study on Friday nights. This is what happens.

10. You can find buns at the cemetery up Provo Canyon!! They are wonderful little creatures. I especially love the Mysterious Gray Bun.

11. Last one and then I'm out. Once a crayon...

...always a crayon.

A Blist of the Classes I Will Be Taking Fall 2010

Woo! Last night I registered for classes. That was...an experience. It's hard to try and figure out what classes you want/should take from a 200 page catalog. I finally came away with a schedule I was happy with, even though I didn't get an art class.

1. University Spanish 3; daily, 7:00-7:50. Yes. I know it's early. But I totally had early morning seminary. I'm a pro. HA. But seriously, I had to fight for this class! I had to keep checking back on the registration site and didn't think I had a chance to get in. Luckily there was one open spot this evening so I took it.

2. Book of Mormon; TTh, 9:00-9:50. This should be a good class, even though it sounds like my professor is kind of intense.

3. Honors Writing and Rhetoric; MWF, 9:00-9:50. This should be a good one. Writing and rhetoric are kind of my thing, so I'm excited!

4. Honors Western Humanities 1; MWF, 11:00-11:50. I loved the humanities classes I took in high school. I know this is a little different, but it sounds really cool! The description is as follows... "Western civilization from Greek antiquity to Renaissance from perspective of traditional humanistic values reflected in its arts and ideas. Examines fundamental questions about human experience, formative events in history, and value of important literary and artistic texts."

5. Geography and World Affairs; MWF, 12:00-12:50. This might be the class I am most excited for. It looks so interesting and my professor got really great reviews on Rate My Professor. Apparently he gives slideshows of different places around the world, and all the photos are ones he has taken himself. Neat? I think yes.

So...that's my fall schedule! Even though I didn't get an art class like I had hoped, I think I'll survive. All I need now are some dishes for my dorm...and maybe a few other things...and I'm set to go!

Girl's Camp 2010

So on Saturday (Yes, I actually started this on time but...didn't post it until now. Which makes this a few weeks late!), I got home from Girl's Camp. It was easily the best week of my summer! I love to be a YCL (youth camp leader) for the younger girls and being so goooofy all week long. Who wouldn't want to go camping with all your best friends? It's the greatest! Here is a blist of some of my favorite things about girl's camp.

1. If you ask nicely and promise to write the cook's sons letters while they are on their missions, you might just be able to snag a few snickerdoodles before dinner.

2. The first year girls are adorable. I had originally wanted to YCL for the fourth year girls and go back packing, but because I was needed in Unit 1, I got to YCL there! It turned out to be a great experience.

3. a. This year we started a new camp tradition...YCL nicknames! Can you guess mine? SPARKLES.
3. b. I loved calling people by their nicknames. It was so fun to say, "Hey Stiletto, what time is blah blah blah" and, "Rockstar, can you pass me the salt?" or, "No one told you to do that, Chip. It was the people in your head who told you to!" (That last one was an actual quote.)

4. We play pranks on each other. The best one by far happened on Friday night, our last night in camp. Apple/Spunky/Stephanie, our almost fearless YCL leader informed us that the one thing she is really afraid of are alien invasions/abductions. So Friday, we all decided to have a BIG sleepover downstairs (we stayed in a lodge, slept upstairs and had a sweet hangout downstairs). We sat around a table until 2:30 making friendship bracelets, telling stories, and laughing our heads off. Around 2, Apple decided to go to her car across the way to get a CD to play for us. Lexi, who in a moment of brilliance decided to pull an alien prank on Apple, ran upstairs and got her headlamp and three glow sticks, strategically placed in the band of the headlamp strap. When Apple came into the door, Lexi began clicking her tongue with all the lights about her head. Apple ran away as fast as she could. Hysterical.

5. One of my girls this year is actually my friend from seminary's cousin. It was really random to find that out, but way cool, too!

6. I love the stars. My very favorite part of camp is the star gazing. There's something wonderful about laying on your back, looking through the trees at all those little bits of light in the sky.

7. a. My other very favorite part of camp is talking with the leaders. Staying up until 2 AM with Apple, Forte, and Jane Eyre was one of the best nights I've had in a long time. We talked about everything and it was so easy to discuss stuff with them.
7. b. Talking with my dad is also really fun. The night of the dance, he made me laugh so hard I peed my pants. True story.

8. The food at girl's camp is always amazing. I think that I eat more at girl's camp  than I do the rest of the year. Ok, slight exaggeration. Major exaggeration. But seriously. One night at dinner I ate two whole baked potatoes, a salad, jello...I can't even remember everything. But I also ate cookies, ice cream, and an apple crisp. Delicioso.

9. I learned how to make a mean friendship bracelet. Tell me what pattern/colors you want and I'll make you one.

10. a. I found my power animal: the butterfly.
10. b. To discover your power animal, it must come to you. For example, I did not know my power animal until two butterflies that were basically dancing flew into my face. And the rest was history.

So basically Girl's Camp is the best thing ever and I love it. That's all, the end :)

This is Unit 1. During our certification, the girls used their knowledge of knots to tie up Brother Savage!
My girls: "Sparkles, it's knot time!"
Me: "It's not time for what?"

Some Wise Words from T. Starr...

A few years ago, I think I was probably 15, a fabulous sister missionary came to my branch. Her name you ask? Sister Starr. Was she the coolest? Yes. Did I love her? Yes. Was she a grape? No. (Now that is a funny joke.) So of course when it came time for me to send out graduation announcements, I sent one to this awesome lady. She sent me back an awesome card with some things she learned/advice for my freshman year at college. Here goes the list, which I am turning into a blist.

1. a. Do NOT light fireworks off inside the dorms unless you want to be in trouble!
1. b. I'm glad T. Starr told me this, it's going to save me a lot of trouble!

2. a. Scootering on campus gets you to class faster than walking.
2. b. Yay! I won a sweet-o cruiser at grad night. I'm super excited to use it!

3. a. Look for hair in the mashed potatoes in the cafeteria. Sick nasty!
3. b. I will not be eating in a cafeteria, but I will still keep my eyes peeled.
3. c. I never understood the phrase "eyes peeled." It makes me think of peeled grapes. Ew?

4. a. Naps are golden.
4. b. Napping is one of the things I do best. I am glad to know this vital piece of information.

5. Get involved in your ward... You'll gain amazing friends!

6. a. Always go to class! Don't skip...so when you accidentally sleep through your english final the professor forgives you! :) Whoops.
6. b. I would LOVE to know the story behind this...

7. Do random/crazy things like "Dorm Idol" (like American Idol) and videotape it.
7. b. If we did a talent show, I would for sure show off my "How many jelly beans can Sydney fit in her mouth?" trick. It's definitely a crowd pleaser.

8. Don't facebook all day...get out and do stuff!

9. a. Don't sneak dogs, snakes, bunnies into the dorms...not worth it.
9. b. I would also like to hear this story...Hmmm...

10. Work hard and play hard!!! These are for sure memories in the making!

11. Pray and read those scriptures!!!

So basically, I love this lady like I love...diamonds. That's sayin' a lot right there. In conclusion, I would like to tell a joke that T. Starr told me.

Ask me if I'm a grape.

Adios!

A Blist of the Past 8 Months...

Oh I am so behind. It's taken me 8 months to make a new blist! That right there is crazy sauce. So I guess I will do a quick update on my life since then.

1. In December I got my driver's license. That is neat. Now I can drive myself places! Sometimes people tell me I have a lead foot. But I see no problem there :)

2. a) I'm officially going to BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY. Just thought I'd get that out there in all capitals because I'm that stoked.
2. b) I already have two of my classes--Book of Mormon and Honors Writing--both with really great professors. I get to choose the rest of my classes in July. I was looking at the catalog of classes and I cannot even believe the crazy cool options I have. Um, hello? Of COURSE I would like to take a class on dinosaurs. And DUH. I'm totally taking beginning ice skating. Or bowling.
2. c) I have my housing, too! I'm living in Heritage Halls, which is freshman housing but more like apartment-style living. There is a kitchen and living area and three double rooms. That means six girls...and one bathroom. Hmm. That should be interesting, but since there is this neat networking site called Facebook, I already have talked to my roommates. They all seem awesome! Can't wait.

3. a) I just got back at 2 AM from our senior trip! It was crazy. We left Thursday at 1 AM and went to Magic Mountain. Best roller coasters evah! Then we went to Disneyland from midnight to 6 AM, and then to Universal Studios from 11 to 6. We got about 4 hours of sleep between all three of those things and pretty much went loopy, but it was great.
3. b) Sometimes when you are that tired, you say funny things. For example:

Sydney: "So at work, there is this huge jar of belly jeans..."

And

Sasha: "Oh I get it. Like the Viper. Vipers go hissssssssssssssssssssss."

And

Ariane: "How much is a squishee?"
Laurel: "What's a squishee?"
Sydney: "I think she means slushee."
Ariane: "No, a squishee."
Sydney: "They're called slushees."
Two minutes later...
Sydney: "Laurel, look at that sign. You can buy squishees."
Ariane: "I TOLD YOU."

And

Chloe: "So I go to the counter and ask the lady for ketchup. She asked me how many I wanted. I said three. She came back and gave me five. Why even ask how many I want if you aren't going to give me the right number???"
It's very entertaining.

4. I graduate in less than two weeks. Weird? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Nerve wracking? Only because I have to write a speech. Ha. If anyone has any ideas on how to write a funny, clever, inspiring graduation speech, let me know. (Yet another side note, if anyone has ideas for a seminary graduation talk, that would be nice, too.)

5. I have a new and very entertaining pastime at work. (Small side note, I still work at the community pool.) Every time that Eleno and I work, he leaves his shirts around the office while he's teaching swim lessons. In an effort to keep the office clean, I hide his shirts in various locations. Then he has to play the game Hot and Cold to find them. Its really fun for me. Sometimes I leave ransom notes for him with the labeler. Its exciting.

6. Cammie Mutz is leaving me in 2 months. I don't know if I can take that. I'm going to have to make a blist on all the reasons why I love that girl.

7. This past school year, I've discovered that I love art. I had no idea I could draw until I was thrown into the AP class on accident, but when Mr. Sorrentino gave me some blending sticks and a sketchbook, something clicked. Love it!
7. b) Mr. Sorrentino is an awesome teacher. He does neat things like paint in class, play really loud reggae music, and sometimes we have dance parties to "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" and "You Make My Dreams Come True" and he'll dance on the tables. It's really very exciting.

8. I really enjoy my parents. They say some of the funniest things. Here are some of their really good quotes:

Dad: "Every time we go to Safeway as a family, we're on vacation. But today we're just in Napa. Oh! Let's make this a little mini vacation!"

Walker: "Mom, where's Bakersfield?"
Mom: "Can you say the whole sentence?" Hmmm....

Dad: "I'm going to do a little experiment."
Syd: "What kind of experiment?"
Dad: "I'm going to see if I can play my banjo while riding the exercise bike. You know, kill two birds with one stone. Only...I don't want to kill a bird with my banjo."

9. Little Gracie got baptized today. It was a very happy day! I'm so excited for her. How I love my fellow Rose Petal Scout.

10. I suppose I should say something about how awesome my AP Calculus class is. Some days we have birthday parties. Its way fun. Our teacher Mr. Miller is always entertaining. ALWAYS. Like once, he did a headstand in class. He also tells us the best stories. Here's one of my favorites:

"Hey you guys. Get this. One time I was driving over the hill to Santa Rosa, you know? Right by Cheaper's gas station? Well It was really heavy traffic. Suddenly there were about four deer who popped out of the bushes. They ran out into the middle of the road. I slowed down to about 5 miles an hour so they could go in front of me. What was I supposed to do? It was my birthday! So as I was going slow, one of the deer slipped on the asphalt and I rolled over it. It was sad."

This class is the highlight of my day. Just putting that out there.

Well that concludes my blist for today! Enjoy the photos as well. Until next time!

Yay Universal Studios! L to R: Cody, Chloe, Laurel, Sasha, Me, Ariane.

This is Cammie and I. This is also our masterpiece, created with paint and our little sausage toes. See why I love her so?

AP Art Class at the De Young in San Francisco!

Grecian Feets.

Smiling boyyy.

Me and my parents a few years ago at Gladstone's in Santa Monica. They are much fun.

Calculus. It was Chloe's birthday and I brought in party hats. We all put them on while Mr. Miller's back was turned. He turned around and said, "Ohhh man. I gotta get a picture of this. My wife's never gonna believe me." Good times. Good times.

Calculus. It was Chloe's birthday and I brought in party hats. We all put them on while Mr. Miller's back was turned. He turned around and said, "Ohhh man. I gotta get a picture of this. My wife's never gonna believe me." Good times. Good times.
